Why We Started Austin Sound Care
When I was nine years old, I built my first gaming PC. I’ve always been someone who goes all in when something interests me. Music has been the same way. From the moment I picked up the saxophone, I knew it would be more than a hobby.
But the moment that changed everything wasn’t on a stage or in a competition. It was in a room at Brookdale Senior Living, playing for a small group of residents who hadn’t expected a live performance that day.
One woman, who the staff told me rarely spoke, started humming along. A man in a wheelchair began conducting with his hand. By the time we finished, we weren’t performing — we were having a conversation, one that didn’t need any words. This really intrigued me and led me to several months of independent research about which I will write in my next post.
Austin Sound Care is my way of making sure that connection happens as often as possible and for as many people as possible. We’re just getting started, but every performance reminds me why we’re doing this.
If you’re a young musician in Austin and you want to experience what it feels like to play for people who truly need your music, reach out. We’d love to have you.
